Broken

Written June 1106 – A lot of things changed at the Heartland Games for a lot of people. This is for all of us.

A promise made in fear and anger -
Its time has come to fade away.
Made for love and broken for love,
A chance taken, come what may.

A legacy scattered across the winds -
Lost in bravery and strength.
Always to strive and never to yield,
It will endure as it was meant.

A heart forever left untold -
Never to know how it might have been.
Left too late and gone too soon,
Lost alone forever it seems.

A crown falls and a knee bends -
Humanity cast open to its Pride.
Do what's right but know what's right,
No easy stand to alone abide.

A rule abandoned for the beat of a heart -
Training and wisdom quick forgotten.
Danger lurks and fear threatens,
Hand in hand again forgotten.

A world torn too many ways -
Not all the demons come with horns.
Talk, run, fight and kick, scream, bite,
'Til a world unknown is born.

A curse defeated one dark night -
Freedom comes with no relief.
No more games and lots more pain,
Fear and joy beyond belief.

A wall smashed to break a promise,
A unit shattered to crush a legacy,
A soldier falls to drown a heart,
A line unheld to doubt a crown,
Two hearts melt to turn from rules,
Blood spilt to tear the world,
Spaces unwatched to end a curse,
What time will mend remains unknown.
