Wishes

I wish that you had noticed me,
I shouldn't be surprised
I was just another bard,
Not special in your eyes.

I wish that I had gone with you,
I wish that you'd stayed here.
No demon masks and other tasks
And hateful lies to hear.

I wish that I had only said
How dear you are to me.
I gave the job to others
It's too late now, I fear.

I sometimes wish that you weren't quite
So honour-bound and true.
That honour's twisted cage-bars now,
A scourge made just for you.

I ought to just give up, go home,
Don't matter any more,
That you were all my joy and how
I'm broken at the core.

I wish I knew what's left to say,
I've dug myself in deep.
I leave you to your lot, and me
To shattered, dream-choked sleep.
