Sister, I saw an angel fall
From a clear bright April sky
And her anguised sob was a siren's call
And my heart yearned to know why
She would spread her wings o'er this mournful scene
And hang her head in shame
Shedding tears that caught in the morning light
A shining argent flame

Sister I heard a nation cry
Beneath the angel's wings
For the fallen, the lost and the yet to die
For the severing of strings
Was I wrong then sister to draw in close
And catch a tear in my hand?
I just needed to know the loss they felt
That I alone could understand

Brother why must you feed me so?
Why regret what can't be changed?
We must reap the crop that their actions sow
And it seems to me so strange
You could forget what you have taught to me
Our existence is no crime
We are feelings lost in a new world's haste
Thoughts out of our time

Sister I felt her take her life
When she knew that none could see
She wished to be nothing if not his wife
And her thoughts were all of me
And the watcher begged for pardon then
For thinking of me ill
That as I stood and watched I could know I lived
For my word was needed still

Brother why must you hurt me so?
Why bring that pain to light?
As I hurt and I burn so your sister grows
And she weeps for her own plight
Must I learn again what I thought I knew?
Does the lesson come again?
There can be no release nor an easy lie
For the seneschals of pain.

Sister the planes are cold tonight
Yet I feel myself grow strong
I could wish for a single candle's light
I could wish that we were wrong
And I need you sister to keep me whole
Though I know it is no crime
To be so needed yet so reviled
Just thoughts out of our time

The painful lesson no man wants
Thoughts out of our time.
