Music and Additional Words by Caoimhe
I wait until soft silence falls
To sneak and creep out of my bed,
And with no candle, with no light,
I leave them sleeping like the dead.
And wrapped in shrouds by midnight’s shade,
By secret paths I trace my way,
Avoiding well the gaze of eyes,
For others only see by day.
Upon this black and moonless night,
Beyond the view of those that live,
I have no light to guide my feet
Save for that which my heart burns to give.
The sounds of night are all around,
Beyond my vision dark things prowl.
I fear no creature of this world,
And draw my cloak round like a cowl.
And thus I come unto his bed,
Beneath the ash, beneath the oak,
I lay me down to take my ease
Atop his leafy, mossy cloak.
And when at last I find my sleep
I’ll lay my head upon his chest,
Till care and grief at last are gone
And day comes not to stir my rest.
