Lady of the Breeeze

He slept a night 'neath the sweet cider moon,
He felt the green grass on his back.
He thought no earthly cause could take this joy away,
Unless the heavens would bring it back.

But then some skybound nymph in jest or in play,
Saw him lying there beneath.
His eyes were open, he saw something that touched belief,
His voice rang out as clear as day, and he sang

Won't you come to me, my lady of the wind,
Won't you take my place?
Won't you come to me, sweet lady of the breeze,
Won't you show your face?
She came to earth, though she knew that she should not,
She ran her fingers through his hair.
His emerald eyes so eclipsed her every thought
Her life could end, she wouldn't care.

But then she looked up to the moonlight above,
She knew her home was always there,
He was of earth, she was of sky, she couldn't dare
To dream they could be joined in love. But he sang,

Won't you come to me, my lady of the wind,
Won't you take my place?
Won't you come to me, sweet lady of the breeze,
Won't you show your face?
She came to earth, as if she'd never known the sky,
Their fingers touched, and time stood still.
His lips met hers beneath the moonlight's silver ray,
Their kiss did more than to fulfill.

But earth is earth forevermore, and sky is sky,
Her pale face faded, she lay down.
He kissed her lips and smoothed out her satin gown,
Her blue eyes closed, and then she died, so he sang, for ever after,

Won't you come to me, my lady of the wind,
Won't you take my place?
Won't you come to me, sweet lady of the breeze,
Won't you show your face?
Won't you come to me, my lady of the wind,
Won't you take my place?
Won't you come to me, sweet lady of the breeze,
Won't you show your face?
