Lilac and Rose

Lilac and roses, the first smell of morning
The scent of the even'time, boquet of night
Gentle the breeze as my lady walks hither
Softly the moon lends my lady her light
Sweeter than angels and warmer than sunshine
Hair red as sunset and skin white as snow
And if I must go then I shall carry with me
A silk favour scented with lilac and rose

O'er mountain and glen with the army march forward
My master he calls and I answer the cry
But though there are miles between me and my sunrise
I feel her yet with me and keep my eyes dry
I know in my heart we shall be reunited
For there is no force that could keep me from home
And when I return then I shall sleep so sweetly
In arms that are scented with lilac and rose

The battle goes on and my arms grow so weary
The men they lose heart as the nightmare goes on
But though my sword falls and my shield dips before me
There is one thing yet that will keep my heart strong
She waits for me now as she did on that first day
She carries a light that inside her does grow
So I'll carry on, for each night I grow stronger
For that's when I dream of my lilac and rose.
