I didn't know that with one breath
You could wish for life then wish for death,

Longing for night, then longing for day,
Hours counted by time spent apart,
Hours together kept locked in the heart.

I didn't know that sickness and pain
Went with love like black clouds with rain,
Nobody said it would feel like this,
Living and dying in hopes of one kiss.

I didn't know that words merely kind
Could sear my heart and sear my mind,
No-one said dreaming of future days
Would hurt in a hundred thousand ways.

I didn't know love was like knives,
Cutting and tearing through peoples' lives,
I didn't know it would feel like this,
Living, dying, for want of one kiss.
