Soldier and Sailor

The sailor stood on the battlefield and watched the warrior maiden,
Her sword flashed bright in the morning light,
His heart near stopped as he saw the sight
Of her being laid low by an enemy blow,
And it seemed her life was taken.

The sailor fought through the melee and soon he knelt beside her,
He raised her body from the ground,
And made his way back through the crowd,
The healers’ guild he quickly found,
And stayed while they revived her.

The warrior rose and sought her blade as soon as she was mended,
The fire of war was in her eyes,
They took their place behind the lines,
And side by side they fought with pride,
Till the battle it was ended.

Their souls were linked with bonds of love though duties kept them parted,
The warrior stayed upon the shore
To guard the homeland she adored,
The sailor faced the oceans roar,
Though both were lonely hearted.

The ship was tossed on the stormy seas; the sailor braved the weather,
The warrior raised her sword on high,
And led the charge with a battle cry,
And if this day they both should die,
At last they'll be together.
