The Day it All Ended
On the day it all ended he took to the valley
And he entered there into the forge
On the day it all ended as hammer struck anvil
He struggled and reached for the words
Brother o' brother, between you and I
My heart this day it is sore
And I can't help but wonder what more I can do
And what more the new day holds in store
On the day it all ended he put down the hammer
And wiped off the sweat from his brow
As he cast off his apron, he turned to his brother
And darkened his face in a scowl
Brother o' brother, what nonsense is this
Know you only a fool would yet try
For this world is a dream which knows not its own end
Dreamt by stronger men than you and I
We have tried nothing and everything that lies beyond us now
Sings of clouds in the sky yet to come
And this life is a mummer that knows not his lines
But will play for those who pay the sum
On the day it all ended he went to the mountain
And waited for the angel to come
There he fell to his knees shedding tears born of helplessness
'Til the tears they would no longer come
Angel o' angel, lend me your wings
Bear me up 'til I see past the dawn
For the evils that men do have painted the sky
And I fear never to see the morn
When the angel came walking for no wings had she
She sat down and did cradle his hand
On the day it all ended she wiped his last tear away
And bade him to gaze o'er the land
Dear one o' dear one, what answers have I?
Do you think I read words not yet scribed?
For the morning is painted in blood and in tears
Shed by children who fight over lies
But if you try nothing, then everything is far beyond you now
For no man can do what he won't try
But perhaps your brother is right - stay where you are
There are thousands more tears left to cry
On the day it all ended he climbed to his feet
And he wiped one more tear from his eye
On the day it all ended he turned to the valley
He threw back his head and he cried
Brother o' brother there's naught to forive
For you do nothing thinking it's right
But I can't join you brother, crying for our own deaths
For there's something I've just learnt this night
I'm still alive
I am yet breath, I can still strive
I have heard 1000 whispers, I have heard the scorn
I have seen 1000 dreams, invested in the morn
I still believe
I could ask the world a question and the answer could be me
I could die tomorrow, I could die tonight
I could hear 1000 prophets, none of whom are right
So don't ask me brother what's left to forgive
Forgive me my brother, I've chosen to live
Save your tears until we mourn
Raise your head and face the dawn
Savour the light we yet see
Breathe to live, don't live to breathe
Light a candle 'gainst the night
Know just what it means to fight
Gather all the joy you've known
Show now love as love has shown
Breathe
On the day it all ended he put pen to paper
And scribed out the words as they came
On the day it all ended he spoke to the future
With the only words he wished to say
Future o' future, you can't see me now
But I beg you to bear this in mind
While the evils that men do may darken your skies
Nothing's ended while you're still alive
