The Day the World Ended
There's a warmth on the breeze
As I make my way
To the camp of the Clan
I've something to say
You're the family I've dreamt of
And if you'd oblige
I'll swear ever after
To fight by your side.
A wife and her husband, and her sister
Up the field ascended.
three went out to fight a war
The day the world ended.
There's a cloud in the sky
As we dress for war
Tartan and armour
And a pendant bear claw
And Ma lifts our chins
Paints woad on our brows
The family embrace
And we take our vows
We are husband wife and sister
and we shall not be rendered
three we go, and will return
the day the world ended.
There is rain in those clouds
As we march out to fight
Singing glory songs
Of victory and might
But the healers must stay back
To help those who fall
As he marches onward
They are heroes all.
A wife and her sister watched a husband
As up the field he ascended
Wondering if he'd return
The day the world ended.
There's a chill in the air
We watched the death count rise
Some turned to stone
Before our eyes
Others so mangled
only clothing could show
Who they belonged to
And who should know
We are sisters in family and in healing
our spirits have descended
Too many dead, where's her husband?
The day the world ended
Now the sun is setting
And some have been lost
And they say we saved the world
But at what cost?
We head back to camp
downcast arm in arm
Praying to the ancestors
He's come to no harm
We are but a wife and a sister
No husband with us descended
three went out and two returned
The day the world ended
There's a ghost in the camp
As they sit and cry
He watches his wife
and her sister sits by
And he wishes a word
Wondering if she will hear
I died for your world
I love you my dear
You're my wife, and now your sister
Will look after you til your heart's mended
One went out never to return
The day the world ended.
