The Heart of Winter
The sunlight flickers through the trees
Dancing
And leaves a’ rustling with gentle breeze
Blowing
As people walk and children play
Laughing
On such a wondrous summers day
Yet in my mind there’s been but snow
Falling
Since the day you said you had to go
Leaving
My heart with ice is hard and cold
Freezing
As all my dreams begin to fold
(Refrain)
First summer fell to autumn’s cold
Then winter took its frozen hold
It will ne’er release its icy claw
My heart is winter evermore
Now winter holds my body tight
Gripping
With full force of its glacial might
Chilling
Just distant memories of a summer day
Fading
The day you left and ran away
And now it’s winter in my heart
Staying
No spring or summer e’er will start
Warming
For all is buried beneath the snow
Growing
And biting winds begin to blow
(Refrain)
A chill that’s growing more and more
Spreading
No summer sun and no spring thaw
Melting
The pearls of ice that were my tears
Crying
My hopes are gone I’m left with fears
An empty landscape dark and bleak
Dying
As nature doth its havoc wreak
Killing
For memories of the time afore
Hurting
Now the winter stays forevermore
