The Price of Battle
As he stands upon the battlefield
With his clothes all caked in gore
With friends and foes around his feet
He can fight the fight no more
As he stares upon this awful scene
His sword drops from his hand
Then to his knees he slowly slips
And he curses all the land
(Refrain)
When we stood as one before
Has our friendship faded to the past?
Did it mean anything at all?
As he kneels another man walks by
Wearing colours of his foes
He sees the man and draws his sword
Ready for the killing blow
The kneeling man now raised his head
Looked his foe deep in the eyes
And he knew this man was once his friend
Then he saw the sword and cried
(Refrain)
They held their gaze for years and years
‘Till a few minutes had passed
And then the sword was lowered down
Then they both shook hands at last
The kneeling man got to his feet
And he spoke then to his friend
I’ve known you now for many years
Is this how our friendship ends
(Refrain)
Now as they spoke some men drew near
And they captured both of them
But the man whose life had just been spared
Wore the colours of these men
To the captain there he did explain
How his prisoner he’d gained
To save his friend’s life it was his aim
But his friend’s eyes showed just pain
(Refrain)
The captain smiled and said no need
Our orders are quite clear
No prisoners will be taken now
We kill this man right here
And so they forced him to his knees
Then the captain turned and said
This man he was your prisoner, so
I’ll let you take his head
(Refrain)
So they made him stand next to his friend
Raise his sword to strike the blow
But as he swung the sword he turned
And the captain’s eyes forever did close
Now the Captain’s men fell on them both
But there was no place to run
The fight went on till both men fell
And they died together as one
(Refrain x2)
