Winter's Night
Chorus
Throw some more wood on the fire my love,
And draw your chair into the light.
This long winters dark sets a chill in my bones.
I’m feeling each year of my old age tonight.
I remember the time I was slender and brave,
My skill with a sword was well known.
I’d charge into combat with fire in my eyes,
As I fought for my family, my friends and my home.
The joy of the battlefield burned in my veins,
I was proud, I was youthfull and bold.
I was ready to die the true hero’s death,
Never dreamed that one day I would grow frail and old.
Chorus
I remember the first time I met you my love,
On the field on a clear autumn day.
I was injured in battle, could no longer walk,
But you found me and carried me out of the fray.
We fought side by side through the long years of strife,
Till finally we laid down our swords.
And turned from the battlelines wearied and scarred,
To find rest and peace far away from the wars.
Chorus
The life that we made has been happy my love,
The children we raised have grown strong.
And now that they’ve grown and have homes of their own,
I remain with my husband here where I belong.
We said we’d be true till the day that we die
Never knowing how long that would be.
And now that we’ve come to the twilight of life,
I’m glad that it’s you who is still here with me.
